As the dissapointment from finding out that the famed Rosy-Etta from the well know Google Wave preview video is not in working status, another comes to take her place. Aunt Rosie (named after the authors aunt, not the similarly named bot) can also translate your text into another language. Add her to your wave and start typing. After a few words she will ask you (in your blip) what language you would like the translation to be in. Once a language is chosen she will start the translation. Check out the video below for a demo (its a bit old and the usage has changed so do not use it as a how-to) of how she works and visit her at the Aunt Rosie page on the bot list.

Ask BingyBot a question and sit back and wait for the reply. This bot uses bing.com (not a fan, but whatever) to find the answer to your question. Its uses are trivial for the most part but who does not like having a know it all in the conversation when you need one (my wife, but that is a different story). Check out this video showing its use and then visit the BingyBot page on our bot list.

In an attempt to make the instruction pages as real as possible I had contemplated embedded mini waves into each page to show bots usage. The bad part about that was that the waves would need to be public (anyone could edit and deface them) and that only current wave users could see them. I was trying to avoid having to put screenshots in as that could take a lot of time and most users would not want to go that far. I decided to try my hand at re-creating the blip look with html and css. I think I did a halfway decent job and below is a screenshot of the end result.

For those who know mediawiki templates, you will have no problem using this one. For the rest, you can just copy/paste the following code and make your small changes.

For bots that respond to your blip with a new blip, use the “wave” template:

{{wave

|trigger=<what you say to get the bot to respond>

|bot=<bots address (eg. bouncy@appspot.com)>

|response=<what the bot said in response>

}}

For bots that edit your blip, use “wave2″ twice as a before and after:

My text:

{{wave2

|bot=<In the first of 2 blips, this will be “Me”>

|response=<In the first blip, response will be what you say to the bot>

}}

Bots change:

{{wave2

|bot=<In the second blip, if the bot edited your response, it would be “Me (and botsname@appspot.com)”>

|response=<This would be what the bot changed your text to>

}}

If anyone has any improvements for this mediawiki template, please feel free to let me know. I am by no means an html/css expert and am more than willing to take hand-me-down suggestions.

I got the wiki setup (and a forum, but its empty right now) and added as many bots (and gadgets) as I could. I currently have 84 bots listed, although I am sure at least a third of them are not working (and will be noted soon hopefully). I also have 23 gadgets listed on there that you can check out. If you have any cool ideas for gadgets or bots, please post them in the forum and hopefully we can get some bored devs to check out your ideas.

As with most of what we do, this site was created to fill a gap that I was experiencing. Having been a wave user for over a week I have to constantly go googling the intertubes in search of cool new bots to satisfy my enhancement addiction. If you have done this yourself, you will undoubtedly know that it is a fairly unfruitful process which generally returns the same Lifehacker “Google Wave 101” post (great post, check it) and a few other blogs with the embedded wave from the Lifehacker post.

I also wished many times for a place to submit bot ideas. Once in a while I get this great idea for a wave bot but soon forget it (isn’t that just about how it always happens?). I intend (time permitting) to make this into the most complete and comprehensive Google Wave Bot listing out there, with a place for users to submit new bots and ideas they have for a bot. Hopefully we can spark the attention of some developers trying to find a good idea.

Give me a few days to flesh the site out a little but keep checking back often. I have mediawiki installed that I will setup soon to have detailed information pages for each bot along with just a simple list.
